Coming Soon to DVD   20th Century Fox Home Entertainment's Peter Staddon regularly embraces online fan communities in an encouraging effort to explain the endeavors of the company.  Recently, Staddon has been providing support to rumors that Millennium will be released on DVD in 2003.  In a December 2nd Home Theater Forum chat Staddon was asked whether or not Millennium was, in fact, being prepped for release on DVD.  "That is another TV series I would love to see on DVD," Staddon answered.  "The first two seasons were outstanding. I think you will see season one in 2003 and depending on how that sells we will release subsequent seasons."  In response to queries regarding whether or not Millennium would be presented in a 16x9 widescreen ratio if it was shot in that format Staddon replied, "If it was filmed in 16x9 it will be released in 16x9!"  This is encouraging news, to say the least, and with Staddon's strong support Millennium may soon be available to fans worldwide in the optimum format.  Visit the Home Theater Forum for the complete chat transcript or the Futon Critic for a listing of 20th Century Fox's planned 2003 releases, including Millennium: The Complete First Season.

Millennium on DVD in 2003?   Rumors concerning a highly anticipated Millennium DVD release gained weight earlier this year when the often reliable Digital Bits website claimed that efforts to get the series released were underway at Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.  Yesterday, in an update of the Digital Bits Rumor Mill section which focused on those releases expected from Twentieth Century Fox at the start of 2003, the site reinforced such claims.  "Looking down the line, word is from our sources that Chris Carter's Millennium is also being prepped for DVD release before the end of 2003," the site declared in its November 11th update.  Digital Bits editor Bill Hunt was unable to elaborate on that vague notice for the Abyss.  "You have all the information I can give you at the moment," Hunt stated.  "All I can tell you right now is that Millennium on DVD is moving forward."  Until such claims can be otherwise substantiated, this recent news seemingly serves only to strengthen the internet hearsay and conjecture concerning Millennium's future.

Henriksen Back as Bishop?   According to Dark Horizons' latest batch of news and rumors, actor Lance Henriksen may be adopting his android persona, Bishop, one more time.  The project he's reportedly set to appear in is the long awaited big screen interpretation of the popular Aliens vs. Predator video games, crossovers which pit two of science fiction cinema's most popular modern monsters against each other.  "Lance Henriksen has apparently signed on for the teamup film," announces Dark Horizons.  The word comes from British cinema magazine Total Film and has yet to be confirmed by additional sources.  Frank Black aside, Henriksen's performances as the android Bishop in Aliens and Alien3 represent the role for which he is perhaps best known to movie audiences around the world.

Henriksen Turns Garbageman   Lance Henriksen is busier than ever, signing up for new movie roles with astounding frequency.  The latest addition to his exceedingly long list of films is, unsurprisingly, a low budget horror sequel.  Some fans might argue the actor's recent efforts emphasize quantity over quality.  Regardless of each film's apparent worth, however, Henriksen's performances remain consistently impressive and always entertaining.  Lance will appear along with Amanda Plummer and John Kapelos in Mimic: Sentinel, the second direct-to-video sequel based on the 1997 science fiction thriller.  Filming has begun in Bucharest, Romania and will continue until the end of October.  Credits currently list his character in the film simply as Garbageman, perhaps not his most challenging role.  Further information on this and a multitude of other upcoming Lance Henriksen releases will be posted as it becomes available.

Millennium and Manhunter   With the premiere of Red Dragon and the return of Hannibal Lecter to the big screen, thoughts are turning once more to the origins of the serial killer genre of thriller.  In a recently aired National Public Radio review of the film David Edelstein criticizes Red Dragon while comparing and contrasting it with Manhunter, Michael Mann's 1986 version of the same tale, and, in the process, drops the name of Chris Carter's own foray into the genre. "[Manhunter] led to C.S.I. and John Doe and Profiler and Millennium and all the other movies and TV shows that didn't just borrow from Harris' plot, they borrowed Mann's movie underpinnings," Edelstein explains.  "After this, thrillers would not only get fetishistic about autopsy rooms and elements of forensics, they would fixate on that single haunted protagonist; someone who would wander fresh murder sites and stare at glossies of victims and relive the slaughter from the killer's point of view; someone who would be able, at a terrible cost, to plunge deep into a psycho's roiling psyche."  Watching Red Dragon at the local theater while remember both Thomas Harris' novel and Mann's Manhunter is sure to illuminate the inspirational source of many Millennium elements for fans, particularly those seen during the show's series finale.  The entire NPR review is available online in Real Audio format.

A Change of Face   Those fans who regularly enter the Abyss via fourthhorseman.com, my personal website, will have already noticed that a new introduction webpage has been created for this website.  While the site's new entrance serves merely as a splash page of sorts and doesn't offer any exceptional new information or links it does present visitors with some nice graphics and a format based, with some degree of bitter pride for our under-recognized series, on the official Ten-Thirteen website for The X-Files.  It's also my way of testing the waters for a possible move of this, the Abyss main page, to a new server.  When visiting or bookmarking the Abyss, feel free to enter through the new introduction page to keep abreast of the most notable recent updates.  Comments, as always, are welcome.

Quoth the Saver   After the Millennium Group's personalized computer systems featured prominently in the series, one type of download that's always in demand among online fans is the Millennium based screen saver.  The Millennium Collections website, already featuring a simple Ouroboros screen saver, has recently unveiled its latest original creation, a screen saver which primarily features each and every one of the thought provoking quotes Millennium showcased before its episodes.  As webmaster Matt Bunch describes it, "It's truly a screen saver that you can't take your eyes off of."  Visit Millennium Collections now to download the screensaver for your PC.

The Music of Millennium   Today I'm proud to announce that an all new Abyss extension devoted to the music of Millennium is now online.  While it's been my goal to create an Abyss subsection offering an MP3 library for some time the difficulties of hosting such files have kept such a plan from being put into action.  The Abyss' new Millennial Music section will regularly rotate its downloads, offering visitors the opportunity to obtain samples of the show's soundtrack, songs overheard on the series, and the occasional odd entry which matches the show's unique themes.  The first song posted for download is, quite naturally, the extended version of Mark Snow's theme to Millennium.  Regular notices will be posted here when each new download is made available.  Visit the Millennial Music section now to hear the extended Millennium theme and feel free to contact me with comments, concerns, or suggestions.

The One Was Not the One   The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror handed out the 28th Annual Saturn Awards Monday night and, unfortunately, the creative duo of Glen Morgan and James Wong left this year's ceremony unrecognized.  While Morgan and Wong were awarded the Best Horror Film Saturn for Final Destination one year ago, this year's award for Best Science Fiction Film was given to the producers of A.I.: Artificial Intelligence rather than their outlandish adventure, The One.  Those nominees associated with Ten-Thirteen Productions and The X-Files' final season also went unawarded.  For a complete listing of this year's genre winners visit Cinescape online.
