DECEMBER NEWS

December 29th

The End?   The year 2001 is upon us.  Is it the true turning of the millennium?  Is the time near?  How will Frank and Jordan Black be spending the holiday?  The Millennial Abyss will not be updated for the next several days due to exigent circumstances.  I suggest you spend the time considering the breathtaking historic events we have the privilege of witnessing first hand.  And, of course, worrying and waiting for ominous yet vague apocalyptic threats.  That is how we hardcore Millennium fans spell a good time, right?  When I return we'll have plenty of updates including the January Abyss calendar image, Millennium comic book news and previews, and some exclusive info concerning Lance Henriksen's work on The Lost Voyage film.  Happy New Year... may the third millennium be as interesting as our last.

It's Coming...   You've all been waiting and worrying, but rest assured the Millennium comic book is on the way!  If you haven't seen it already, surf on over to the Fourth Horseman Productions main page (www.fourthhorseman.com) and be sure to read my latest NEWS brief, which pertains to the production of the comic book series.  This should help clear up a few of the issues regarding the comic's 2001 release.  A brand new look for the official comic homepage has been implemented as well and I hope to have plenty of exciting new artwork and information inserted soon.  Stick with us, folks, for the time is near and I'm very proud of our progress.

Best of the Best   Today's end of the year update isn't related to Millennium but, in many ways, this website and its associates act as my own personal internet soapbox.  I feel like sharing, so here you go... you can't stop me. Since Millennium left the airwaves I've searched high and low for a well produced, intelligently written and creatively organized weekly drama series worthy to take its place in my viewing schedule.  I've finally found it.  Here's my short year end listing of what I found to be the best in entertainment for the year 2000!  Do yourself a favor and catch these in 2001, you will not be disappointed...

BEST TV DRAMA - The West Wing

BEST TV COMEDY - Malcolm in the Middle

BEST REALITY TV - The O'Reilly Factor

Merry Christmas!   It's that time of year

again... a painful time for Frank Black and his father.  Time for angels to dominate the scene, demons temporarily forgotten.  I wish each and every one of you the very happiest of holidays and I hope that, in your own separate personal ways, you'll find a sort of peace in your life... if only for a short while.  Thanks for visiting and supporting the Abyss all year long, it was my pleasure to keep Millennium alive.  Unless the world ends on New Year's Eve we'll have just as much fun in 2001.  God bless.

Music in the Air?   Now, what can I give you all for Christmas?  How about some news on the official Millennium soundtrack CD?  Would you like that?  I recently talked with Mark Snow, that brilliant man behind the music of The X-Files and Millennium, regarding the CD release Millennium fans have been dreaming of for years.  Says Mark about the project, "On the Millennium front, Fox is going to be putting together a internet music site where you can order or download music from there catalogue, and Millennium will be part of it. I don't know when its going to happen but they won't let me release Millennium music on my own. I hope it pans out, but who knows for sure?  I'll keep you posted on Millennium news."  Our thanks to Mr. Snow for his efforts.  Rest assured when more news breaks you'll read it here on the Abyss.

Christmas Surprises   The timing of Enrique Morales' X-Files crossover essay is quite appropriate.  Fans should stay tuned to the FX cable network in the coming weeks for plenty of notable Millennium Christmas treats.  The X-Files crossover episode, "Millennium," will air on December 29th at both 12:00am and 6:00pm.  FX will also be showing Millennium's two Christmas episodes to frame the holiday: "Omerta" airs December 24th at 1:00am and "Midnight of the Century" airs December 26th at the same time.

Crossing Over   Uploaded to the Abyss today is an intriguing new critical essay, "Millennium: An Appreciation and Theory" by Enrique Morales.  The essay deals exclusively with the X-Files crossover episode which gave us Frank Black teaming with Mulder and Scully to shoot at zombies.  Enrique has taken great time and effort to dissect the multiple elements of the historic episode for interested Millennium fans.  Some unique quotes and original artwork compliment the well narrated piece nicely.  Give it a read, and feel free to e-mail the author with your comments.

The Year in Crime   It's that time of year again!  As we approach what many take to be the true turn of the millennium, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has released their annual Uniform Crime Report. The nation's longest-running decline in crime seemed to slow drastically during the first half of 2000, falling only slightly overall with rape and assault on the rise.  Visit the FBI's official page at fbi.gov to get all of the detailed annual stats on the nation's violent crime.  Perhaps the numbers would've been more impressive if Frank Black were working for the Behavioral Sciences Unit and Agents Emma Hollis and Barry Baldwin manned the Critical Incident Response team.

Back in the Swing   Three cheers to The X-Files for trying to return to previously established standards of excellence and winning back some old hardcore fans such as myself.  Did it take Duchovny's departure to give this show the kick in the arse it required?  The last four episodes ("Roadrunners," "Invocation," "Redrum," and last night's phenomenal "Via Negativa") have won me back, big time.  Can't get enough of that John Doggett, and the writing staff is back in gear.  Just thought I'd offer my two cents regarding the eight season's progression.  Let's hope Carter and crew can keep it up!

Lance's Latest   Variety has released some information today concerning the latest in Lance Henriksen's current line-up of acting gigs, The Untold.  Lance is seemingly taking a break from the paranormal horror storylines he loves so much for this particular film.  Writer director Jonas Quastel's movie tells the tale of "a powerful executive-type who gathers together an group of experts in an effort to locate and explore the area of a plane crash that killed his daughter."  The film is currently shooting in Vancouver.  The Untold's producer, Matt Huson, is also working with Lance and Sarah-Jane Redmond (Millennium's Lucy Butler) on the independent film thriller The Invitation.  The Abyss will keep you posted on progress in all of Lance's new projects.

To DVD or not to DVD?   Many folks have been inquiring regarding the once rumored Millennium DVD release similar to what is being done by Fox Home Video with The X-Files.  Despite the fact that several reputable online sources once simultaneously announced that FOX was considering a complete Millennium DVD release, no news has arrived yet regarding these plans. Perhaps the idea will gradually become more enticing for FOX as the new X-Files season two box set returns begin to filter in and similar releases of Sex in the City and The Sopranos continue to do quite well.  I am currently looking in to getting a formal petition started.  In the meantime, you must write to Fox Home Video (foxmovies@fox.com) with your thoughts on the matter.  Put your vote in!

The End is in the Numbers   Wondering how close to the end of the world we might be on this very day?  Always of interest to me is the Rapture Index, striving "to factor together a number of related end time components into a cohesive indicator, and to standardize those components to eliminate the wide variance that currently exists with prophecy reporting." Sure, it's just for fun and not intended as a true apocalyptic indicator... but it sure is interesting to follow.  Click the link and dive into the statistics.

Praises of the Lost Arc   Once again, the creative and intelligent ladies over at The 11th Hour (www.the11thhour.com) have printed some kind words regarding Millennium.  An article in this month's edition allows the staff to detail the eleven main reasons they love genre movies and television.  Reason number six happens to be Myth-Arcs, and the most powerful and prominent myth-arc to pop into their minds concerns Frank Black and the Millennium Group rather than Fox Mulder and the Syndicate.  Managing Editor Linda Najera states, "The Wongs' vision of the apocalypse is pretty damn screwed up. And I love them for sharing it."  Fellow Editor Lisa Kincaid notes, "Millennium's season two myth-arc gives me the shivers. In a good, incredibly creeped out way."  Click on over to the phenomenal 11th Hour web site to read the entire article, Millennium praise and all.

The Millennial Comet   Curious as to what has happened to well read and once regular Millennial Comet newsletter?  Unfortunately, shortly after beginning Volume 4 of the publication progress was put on indefinite hold.  The writing staff has simply not been brought together yet to initiate a Comet revival.  Nothing is official concerning the Comet's return at this point but as the Editor-in-Chief, I remain hopeful that sometime after the new year the Comet will return as Fourth Horseman Publication with a more manageable monthly schedule.  Visit the official Comet page to read up on some of our fascinating and information packed back issues.

Alternate Ending   Aixla Chapelle wrote to me earlier this week stating, "I know a lot of messages about new RPGs go out every day... I'm hoping this one will be different."  Aixla is founder of The Millennium Files, a new online role playing game set-up through Yahoo clubs.  The RPG's premise is based in a bit of alternate history.  "It's October of 1998. After the death of his wife, Frank Black and his daughter Jordan have moved to Virginia. Only in this RPG Frank doesn't work at Quantico, he becomes involved with the X-Files!"  Visit the Millennium Files site to read more and become involved.

Have a Nice End   Dreamworks has released

the first teaser poster for their 2001 Ivan Reitman science fiction comedy Evolution.  The film is set to star David Duchovny, in his first post-X-Files big screen role, as a community college science professor who attempts to halt a world threatening scientific threat.  The sentiment the poster expresses should give a Millennium fan a grin.  Click the image to enlarge or visit the film's official website.

Wind Chill   Like sands through the hourglass, so are the pages of the The Millennial Abyss' exclusive online tribute calendar.  The time has come to unveil December's calendar image, carefully crafted by talented electronic artist J. F. "the Void" Barrera.  December brings with it an eerie calm, snow scattered across the cool  lifeless faces of statues, a chilling window into that familiar dark Millennium universe.  Click on over to the CALENDAR section to view the image in three high quality size formats and make this work of art your wallpaper for the month.  Enjoy!

Realm of the Afterlife   Chris Carter recently participated in an interview with the UK magazine Dreamwatch in which he discussed The X-Files, The Lone Gunmen, and Harsh Realm.  When asked by the magazine if rumors regarding a Harsh Realm resurrection may be true Carter responded, "I'm still a little bitter about it but it's water under the bridge now. The truth is that the guy who I hold responsible for the quick demise of that show has been cancelled himself so that relieves some of the feeling... I have this idea that I think Harsh Realm was under-appreciated and mistreated, so there is a way I may be able to resurrect it. I actually have an idea how to do that but I have to be secretive about it, so I'm not going to tell you more just yet."  Said in true Carter fashion.

Lost in Space...   So what has Brian A. Dixon been up to these past few days, spacing out from his Abyss update duties?  Well, folks, I'm deeply involved in getting a couple of exciting all new webpages up and running online, among other chaotic life events.  Announcements will be made when those new pages are available for your viewing.  What's that you say?  You need a new Millennium fix?  December's Abyss calendar is on the way along with some exclusive new Lance Henriksen footage.  Stay tuned.

NOVEMBER NEWS

November 28th

Second Wind   Today FOX Home Video releases The X-Files' entire second season in a new DVD collection.  A DVD File review notes that "this is an elegantly designed package that puts all the episodes in order, which is a real boon for collectors. The video and audio are on par with the first box set, and the supplements while not offering much that is new are enjoyable nonetheless."  View DVD Files' full review here, or surf right to Amazon to purchase the set now.  No word yet on the rumored Millennium DVD release but I'm encouraging fans to mail FOX Home Video with their thoughts and demands regarding the preservation of Frank Blacks adventures.

I'm Baaaack!   ...but, sadly, not a happy camper.  First of all, I'm losing scads of fan e-mail to my electronic box simply because I'm not responding to it fast enough.  I must, again, extend my apologies to anyone who has waited patiently for a response to their comments or inquiry and has not received one.  I beg for your understanding.  Next, my new Angelcities server, which I had begun moving all Abyss support pages to, has started using (surprise!) banner ads to support itself.  Grrrrrr.  The search for a banner-free free server continues.  Last, but certainly not least, I seem to be succumbing to a type of madness that could only be caused by, say, a Legion demon sending me Polaroids of my own drowned corpse OR a nasty spinal parasite that certain Utah cult members believe to be the second coming of Christ growing within me.  Those things itch like hell, I tell ya.  Your man Dix will hang in there, though, folks.  Oh, and if your name happens to be Lauren K. Rivers, give a good man a deserved second chance!!!  Please.

Happy Thanksgiving!   I would like to, in advance, wish you each a Happy Thanksgiving.  Due to the holidays I'm going to be taking a brief break from updating the Abyss on a daily basis.  You probably won't see another news brief until after the long weekend.  In the not too distant future the Abyss will be bringing you exclusive never-before-seen Lance Henriksen footage, new fiction, updates on the Millennium comic book, December's Abyss calendar image, and much more!  Until then, be safe and have fun!

At the Limits   I was absolutely shocked last night when I tuned in to an episode of The Outer Limits on Sci-Fi and found not one, not two, not three, but four Ten-Thirteen alumni in a single episode!  "The Inheritors" guest starred Sarah-Jane Redmond (Millennium's Lucy Butler), Bill Smitrovich (Millennium's Bob Bletcher), Don McKay (Millennium's Jack Meredith), and Nicholas Lea (X-Files' Alex Krycek)!  I'll be sure to keep an eye on the Sci-Fi Channel schedule and alert fans when the episode is scheduled to air again.

Somehow, Satan Got on FX   Although the FX cable network's Millennium scheduling isn't user friendly for any fan, nor do they seem willing to respond to viewer mail, there is one blessing.  Take a peek at the column up there on your right.  Fan episode favorite "Somehow, Satan Got Behind Me," penned by writing genius Darin Morgan and skipped over by the FX schedule for some time now, is airing once again Monday night/Tuesday morning.  Be sure to fire up the VCR and catch it while you can!  I continue to try my best to contact FX personnel in regards to scheduling questions.  So far they seem unwilling to respond.  Feel free to drop them a note voicing your opinions today!

Through Frank's Eyes   Matt Bunch and his group 1984, "America's last rock and roll band," have released a new version of their song "My Eyes."  The tune has been remixed to include numerous soundclips from Millennium.  Says Matt about the project, "The more I thought about it, the more the song mimics the life of Frank Black. The remix is done, and available to [Millennium fans] alone for the moment. I have mixed the original song with sound bytes from the series, and then result is a bit creepy."  Follow this link to have a listen to the "My Eyes" Millennium Remix in MP3 or RealAudio format now!  Also, be sure to check out the band's website and have a look at their other available work.

The Revenge!!!   The Sci-Fi Channel is giving us a Lance Henriksen double header this weekend.  On Saturday night at 10:30pm they'll be airing the Lance heavy 1995 fright fest Wes Craven's Mind Ripper.  Sunday brings us Pumpkinhead, the 1988 horror classic starring Lance as a passionate father seeking vengeance for the death of his son, at 9:00pm. On a side trivia note, Tom Woodruff Jr., the special effects make-up artist credited as portraying the title monster Pumpkinhead itself, would go on to work with Chris Carter and crew on The X-Files: Fight the Future.

The Final Frontier   Those who tuned in to last night's new episode of Star Trek: Voyager, "Body and Soul," got a chance to see Millennium's Megan Gallagher (Catherine Black) in a very brief guest appearance.  This is Megan's second appearance in the Star Trek universe, having also appeared on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.  The episode is expected to rerun in many markets throughout the rest of the week.

Final Note   Looks like the ongoing m=1000 music project has come to an end.  Blithely Menace, creator of each and every one of those brilliant and creative sound collages, has posted all thirteen of the pieces on the Foundry's webpage for a limited time.  I highly recommend you take this opportunity to visit the m=1000 site to listen to all of the tracks once again in MP3 or RealAudio.  The m=1000 musical Millennium tribute was a truly engaging and absolutely intriguing project which kept the spirit of our favorite series alive and thriving and was executed stylishly with undeniable talent.  The Abyss would like to extend their deepest thanks, and heartfelt congratulations, to Blithely and the Foundry for their masterful efforts.  Hopefully, this will not be the final Millennium collaboration between the two.  Enjoy the music, folks.

"To Paint..." Burns Bright   On the one year anniversary of its release, a brand new critical review of my own Millennium novella, "To Paint With Blood and Fire," has been released by fan fiction reviewer 4Q2.  I'm pleased and quite proud to announce the review is overwhelmingly positive.  4Q2 analyzes the story's elements and organization and is quite pleased with the results, stating, "When you can take an established franchise so far off the beaten path and still give a tale that does the characters justice while knocking the socks off of the reader, that's nothing short of genius."  The story is awarded a perfect score and praised as "damn near flawless storytelling."  I, of course, couldn't be happier.  Click on over to the Millennium Compendium message boards to read the full review.  Click here to read "To Paint With Blood and Fire" in its original serialized online format.  A hardcopy, professionally packaged release of the story and its supplemental material is planned from Fourth Horseman Productions, no release date has been set yet.

Top Secret!  Abyss Exclusive!   My unnamed contacts at the Group have pulled through for me regarding UPN's Freedom pilot.  I have obtained a copy of the original shoot for the show's first episode, a pilot which contains multiple scenes featuring Lance Henriksen as a military general giving the Freedom fighters orders to save his wife and daughter.  Lance's scenes were reshot for the finalized pilot that was aired in October on UPN and, therefor, he never made it to the television screen.  This is very, very exciting stuff.  Keep your eyes on this webpage for the premiere.  I will be posting Lance's scenes online for your viewing as soon as possible.  The Abyss is the only place you'll find Lance Henriksen's return to episodic television in brand new, never before seen scenes!  Stay tuned.

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow   You've been waiting a long time... You've been eagerly demanding it from me... And here it is!  The Millennial Abyss' exclusive online tribute calendar turns the page to November with an all new chilling image by talented electronic artist J. F. Barrera, the Void.  November's image is a bit more unsettling than October's, a dark piece strongly depicted with that familiar Millennium tone.  Click on over to the CALENDAR section to view the image in three high quality size formats and make this work of art your wallpaper for the month!  Enjoy, and make sure to send Void your thoughts on his work!

Psychobabble   Unfortunately, Millennium received only very brief attention in the most recent Chris Carter online chat held on November 6th via the official X-Files website.  When asked by Japanese fan Andrea Kino whether or not Carter's personal interest in psychology spawned the character traits of both Mulder and Frank Black Carter responded, "On The X-Files, Mulder is trained in psychology and the character of Frank Black used psychology to get into the minds of criminals. This is one of the most interesting aspects of storytelling for me. But, psychology only goes so far on both shows. And actually presents the leaping off point for the paranormal on The X-Files and for good and evil on Millennium. Both shows are actually about the limits of psychology."  You can grab a full chat transcript here.

Trick-or-Treat   Looking for new Millennium fiction?  The recently "aired" Halloween episode of the X-Files virtual season, a script entitled "The Ginger Bread House," features Frank Black's return as an X-Files guest star.  This time he's joined by old foe Lucy Butler and the Millennium Group's new Old Man.  Follow this link to take a peek at the fan made episode and its print advertisement.

Election Day   It's election day, boys and girls... get out there and vote!  Take advantage of your democratic rights and privileges.  There are men and women in this world who would die bloody deaths in order to win the freedom of democracy for their nation, for their families.  Yet, here in America, countless citizens take it all for granted.  Something to think about on your way to the voting booth today.    (And, to get in my slanted say on the matter, I think Frank Black would be proud of any George W. Bush supporter and that Legion fully supports the Gore/Lieberman ticket)

Midnight of the Century   "The Millennium is a state of mind, reflecting more about the collective conscious and unconscious than a calendar date. When will it fall and what will it bring? Quiet transformation or catastrophic change?"  Blithely Menace begins to wind down the beautiful and experimental continuing m=1000 musical tribute project with this eerie and reflective piece.  Listen closely, clocks ticking time away in the background, to the whispered words of William Butler Yeats.  A brilliant audio piece, thoroughly Millennium, not to be missed by any fan.  Follow this link to listen in MP3 or RealAudio.  "The Millennium comes at midnight... what follows?"

$X.XX   Online auctioning definitely is all the rage!  Ten-Thirteen fanatics now have a chance to get their hands on some pretty cool official X-Files props, for a price.  Fox-auction.com is hosting a good number of X-auctions selling off such nifty pieces of nostalgia as the "Theef" voodoo doll, Die Bug Die cans from "War of the Coprophages," and the covers to Kurtzweil's apocalyptic books from the Fight the Future film.  If you've got money to burn visit the site to have a look.

Lance-a-Lot!   Despite the recent Freedom mix-up, Lance Henriksen's acting career is full speed ahead!  It's starting to get hard to keep up with the guy.  As you all know, he's starring in two upcoming films: The Invitation and The Lost Voyage.  A visit to the official British Columbia Film Commission webpage reveals that a new movie, The Untold, is shooting in B.C. this November and December.  Director Jonas Quastel is making the feature through Stage 18 Pictures for Wilderness Productions.  Only one name is currently listed under cast: Lance Henriksen.  Check out the official BCFC website for further details and stay tuned to the Abyss for more news.  Special thanks to Sue for the tip.

Conversation with Carter   Chris Carter will be participating in an international online chat in order to promote The X-Files' 8th season live on Monday, November 6th at 7:00pm ET (4:00pm PT).  The chat will be presented in English, Spanish and Portuguese and held here, on the official X-Files webpage.  Carter will be accepting audience questions during the event.  I highly encourage any Millennium fans in attendance to drill him regarding Frank Black's future, on the big screen or television.

Inside My Head   This is it folks, one of my personal favorite m=1000 tunes.  Blithely Menace twists and distorts the crooning voice of Bobby Darin for this week's installment of the ongoing m=1000 musical tribute series.  Ever wonder what it's like inside Frank Black's skull as he examines a horrific crime scene with a Bobby Darin tune stuck in his head?  Wonder no longer.  Visit here to listen to the piece, "Inside My Head," in either MP3 or RealAudio format... and send Blithely Menace  an e-mail with your thanks and praise!

Missing in Action   So, what exactly was the reason that Lance Henriksen did not appear in the UPN Freedom premiere?  Turns out that all major scenes in the entire pilot had to be re-shot after one of the main characters was recast at the last minute.  Lance, unfortunately, was unavailable for the re-shoot and, therefore, was replaced.  It does look likely, however, that the Abyss is going to be able to bring you Lance's lost Freedom scenes on the web.  Stay tuned for more updates.

OCTOBER NEWS

October 31st

Happy Halloween!   Today's the day... 268!  Demons and ghosts reign supreme on the 31st, although the tykes that'll be ringing your doorbell can hardly compare to Legion.  Up above, in the header graphic, you'll see little Frankey Black trick-or-treating as General Douglas MacArthur.  Isn't he cute?  As always, stay away from Mr. Crocell's house tonight, okay folks?  Why not visit the local video store and pick up a horror flick starring Lance Henriksen (Pumpkinhead, The Horror Show, Scream 3)?  Have a delightful holiday, and be sure to tune in to tonight's FX airing of "The Curse of Frank Black."

October 27th

Freedom Loss   I've just received word, second hand, from the United Paramount Network that Lance Henriksen does NOT appear in the pilot episode of Freedom, contrary to what we've been told.  It's been said that Lance's price tag was too high for his brief 15 minute or so scene and, thus, the scenes were reshot with a lesser known (and, surely, less talented) actor.  Tuning in tonight at 8pm will definitely show us exactly what is going on.  The Abyss is currently attempting to obtain a copy of the original shoot so that Lance's scenes can be posted for your viewing on this website.  Stay tuned for more info.  Thanks to the Group for all their assistance.

October 27th

Freedom Fighting   Lance Henriksen returns to episodic television tonight with the premiere of the new series Freedom on UPN.  The official UPN webpage for the series describes Lance's role as that of a "a hard nosed U.S. General who springs the four [primary characters] and has them work on a rescue of his own kidnapped wife and daughters."  It's not Millennium, but it may be worth a look.  Tune in to your local UPN affiliate tonight at 8:00pm to see Lance in action again!

I'm sorry!  So sorry!   Again I feel it necessary to express my apologies to anyone who has e-mailed me recently and has yet to receive a response.  Even though I update the Abyss on a daily basis, my e-mail habits continue to be nothing short of atrocious.  Rest assured that I will respond to your e-mail in the not too too distant future.  Your concerns have not been forgotten and I will get around to sending a response as soon as possible.  Thanks for your understanding.

Klea Continues   What has Klea Scott been doing since Millennium's end?  A visit to the local video store should reveal a copy of Sally Hemings: An American Scandal, released on VHS on September 27th.  The film gives an historical interpretation of President Thomas Jefferson's long term relationship with his slave Sally Hemings.  Klea can be seen portraying Critta Hemings in the film, acting alongside stars such as Sam Neil, Mario Van Peebles, and Rene Auberjonois.

The Salved Crow   Despite some angry outcries from fans, the third film in the Crow series, The Crow: Salvation, will go directly to video without any theatrical release.  The film was written by talented Millennium writer/producer Chip Johannessen and stars Eric Mabius, who appeared as the angel Sammael in the Millennium episode "Borrowed Time."  According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film will hit video stores on January 23rd.

Beware of Pumpkinhead!   The notice is admittedly a bit late... If it's Wednesday night when you're reading this you might want to click your cable box on to the Sci-Fi Channel.  Undoubtedly in honor of the upcoming holiday, Sci-Fi is showing the 80's horror film Pumpkinhead, starring none other than Lance Henriksen.  Classic Lance in a classic horror flick.  Why does Lance choose to star in so many of these outrageous horror films?  "I love 'em," Lance once explained, "They're all morality plays."

The One   Filmmakers and former Millennium executives Glen Morgan and James Wong have a lot on their creative plate in the aftermath of Final Destination's box office success.  As previously reported here, one of their new projects is a sci-fi thriller involving a cop who faces off against an evil other-dimensional version of himself who has been traveling through dimensions killing off his doubles.  WWF wrestler the Rock (Dwayne Johnson) recently dropped out of the project and it was announced yesterday that the lead now belongs to action star Jet Li.  The project now also has a title: The OneJim and Glen wrote the script for the film, which Wong will direct for Revolution Studios.  Production is set to start in January with a planned August 2001 release date.

Final Destination Goes Platinum   Glen Morgan and James Wong's recent box office hit, Final Destination, is out on DVD... and what a DVD it is!  The New Line Platinum Series special edition disc is loaded with some phenomenal extras not to be missed by the duo's fans.  Included is an alternate ending, a full length Morgan and Wong commentary, and a particularly interesting documentary regarding the audience test screenings which helped to reshape the finished product.  I highly recommend giving it a look.  DVD File has posted an interesting interview with writer/director James Wong here.

Site Updates   One thing that never ceases to drive me crazy are those intruding pop-up advertisements that plague free website providers such as Geocities and Tripod.  Many of the Abyss' sections are hosted on Tripod pages plastered with just this type of annoying intrusion.  My apologies for making you put up with it this long.  I've begun the process of transferring each of the Abyss side sections over to a more pleasant web space.  Today the WALLPAPERS section was moved over to an Angelcities server, more will follow.

Revelation   "The human mind has an amazing ability to try to make sense out of nonsense. Many people hear voices or music in white noise of all kinds... in water, wind, and rain. What are those voices saying? What secrets do the bees keep?"  The m=1000 music project continues to pose fascinating questions while presenting us with some marvelous atmospheric tunes in the spirit of Frank Black's life journey.  Visit the Foundry's m=1000 site now to listen to this week's entry, "Revelation."

Movieland Millennium!   How does Lance respond to the exciting recent talk of a possible Millennium movie?  "I would love to play Frank Black again. Chris Carter wants to do a movie.  We'd be able to show and say things that we couldn't on the series."  Sounds like a Millennium fan fantasy.  The full TV Guide article offers the fans some advice on making their dreams come true:  "You can write to Carter c/o Twentieth Century Fox Television, 2121 Avenue of the Stars, Suite 809, Los Angeles, CA 90067; who knows what might happen if you and a few hundred thousand of your friends let your feelings be known?"
